Background:
June Carey studied at Glasgow School of Art. She became a member of Edinburgh Printmakers and thus began a lifelong love affair with printmaking. Discovering etching brought about a turning-point in her work and career.
Influences:
Her work is inspired by her travels through South East Asia and India: “I did not quite expect my senses to be so overwhelmed by the intensity of the rich colour, decoration, opulence and spiritual presence… of this very diverse country, with its incredible mix of different cultures, customs and religions.” June Carey.
Exhibitions & Collections:
10 solo and over 50 prestigious group exhibitions, including Royal Academy of Art, London; McLellan Galleries, Glasgow; Franco Scottish Exhibition, Montpellier; Barbican Centre, London. Her work features in the collections of the Scottish Arts Council, BBC Television, Peter Gabriel, Arts in Fife and Lady Thyne. Professional Member of SSA and AAS.
2008 Artist in Residence at Engramme, Quebec City – G.P.S. and Glasgow City Council. Anne Redpath Award, Scottish Arts Club Award, The Hope Scott Trust Award, European City of Culture, ‘Woman 2000’.
