    Artist Network Day

This presentation was made to a large group of Artlink Central’s contracted artists. It outlines some of the significant changes that Artlink Central has made over 2009-10 and what the future looks like for our work with artists in years to come. It also outlines how we position ourself and some of the major influences over our work such as the social model of disability and maps out the areas in which we practice. For artists who were unable to join us on this day, please contact the Director, Kevin Harrison to get an overview of the Artist Development Day which took place on the 1st March 2010. Decisions taken on the day included the overall structure for an artist reference group for all contracted artists.

Looks like really interesting stuff. Hope this is not too overwhelming a change for Artlink Central and all the artist's who work with you. Wish I had the time to come along to the Artist Network Day. Exciting times ahead. Can artist's add to information gathered on the day... perhaps via an on-line method?

Thanks for the feedback, yes they can. I will shortly email out to all artists some notes from the day as well as some planning of dates for the future.

What I can say is that there will be an artist reference group/network taking place four times a year for contracted artists and we would expect all artists to attend a minimum of one of these. We will also be asking artists to agree to a code of conduct and a new handbook is being finalised. We will be holding equalities training, with a focus on disability equality. We will have formal artist recruitment processes and timescales and contracts will be going forward in the ways described in the presentation.

There was a general support for the process from all participating artists and recognition of the benefits for contracted artists. Some of the meetings will be arranged to take place in Glasgow and Edinburgh so as not to disadvantage commuters from there.

More info will follow shortly. I am hoping to create a contracted artist area on the website, in response to the comments and feedback, where we can have broader discussions and sharing.

    Thanks again for your response.
